Khoobsurat Karnataka

Irkal (or Ilkal) saree is one of the most famous weaves of Karnataka. The saree takes its name from the town of Ilkal in the Bagalkot district of north Karnataka and has been accorded Geographical Indication (GI) tag. Irkal sarees are woven on pure silk, and on a mix of silk and cotton. Traditional border styles are Paras, Gomi, Jari and Gadi. The saree body can be plain, checked, striped or with rectangles. In sarees where the pallu is in complete contrast to the body, inter locking body warp and pallu warp is done using loop system and inserting weft by three shuttles using two different colours yarn by Kondi technique, called as Tope Teni.
