Traditional Garad Korial silk saree

Garad means offwhite/white and this saree is woven with undyed silk yarn giving it a natural offwhite color. Woven on a throw shuttle pit loom, this traditional Garad Korial silk saree is in the laal paar (offwhite with red border) combination with Kalka (paisley) motifs on the off white body, the satin silk borders are Korial i.e interlocked borders (akin to the Korvai weaving in Kanjivaram silk sarees) with comb tooth like motifs along the borders; The beautiful and intricate pallu with Kalka motifs makes this saree perfect for Pujo and other festive occasions; This saree is adorned by brides during wedding as the offwhite represents purity and the red represents power and fertility. Bengali women adorn this saree for Sindhur Khela on Dasami day of Navratri. It is called as Puja saree as it is made from undyed silk yarn and thus “pure”. The saree does not have a blouse fabric but you can pair this with a red blouse and accessorise with traditional gold jewelry and shankha pola bangles.
